Maltese Delegation meets top UK AML/CFT Officials in London

Last week Minister for Finance Prof Edward Scicluna led a Maltese delegation to London. The purpose of the visit was to gain an understanding of how the UK crime agencies combat money laundering and terrorism financing.

PRESS RELEASE BY THE MINISTRY FOR FINANCE

The delegation was composed of high officials from the National Coordinating Committee, the FIAU, the MFSA, the Commissioner of Inland Revenue and the Office of the Attorney General. The Maltese delegation had the opportunity to discuss the approach taken by the UK counterparts to combat money laundering and terrorism financing. The Minister for Finance and his entourage were greeted by Permanent Secretary of the Home Office Sir Philip Mc Dougall Rutnam. They both affirmed that financial crime threatens the safety of all societies and the integrity of their financial system.
The Maltese delegation were also addressed by Mr. Richard Riley Director Economic Crime, Cyber Crime and Anti-Corruption who presented the agenda which was offered by the UK.
During the three-day visit the Maltese delegation had the opportunity to visit the National Crime Agency (NCA), the National Economic Crime Centre (NECC), the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), the Crown Prosecution Office (CPO), the National Terrorist Finance Intelligence Unit (NTFIU) and Scotland Yard.
